Even though the whole world as we know is gone, in the film, and every system which was running it is now so useless in this apocalyptic world, the Hotel Ozone still represents or reminds us a material world. The old man living there seems also holding tight on this material based life or his old good days. I could see "culture" in some shape by how he behaves, dresses and talks, and it looks out of place in the situation of apocalypse.
